Esmeralda County Quality of Life



Esmeralda County offers excellent hunting, fishing, hiking and four-wheel drive trails.  Those interested in history can view petroglyphs, old mining camps and ghost towns.  The county's small communities provide tennis courts, baseball fields and rodeo facilities.   Gliders and sail planes are popular here.  Esmeralda County has an abundance of open space and its inhabitants respect individualism and privacy. Air quality in Esmeralda County is in the attainment status and is qualified as "better than national standards" in all areas of emissions. This makes Esmeralda County among the cleanest counties in the nation in regards to air quality. Esmeralda County's crime rateis exceptionally low at 10.2 per 1,000 of the population for the year 2004. The crime rate is lower than the state, regional, and national averages even though Nevada has one of the highest crime rates in the nation due to the transient population and the 24-hour lifestyle.
