RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS, ESMERALDA COUNTY, NEVADA
CREATING THE ESMERALDA COUNTY LAND USE ADVISORY COMMITTEE
WHEREAS, Land use planning is a cornerstone of economic and community development.
WHEREAS, Federally managed lands make up 97% of the total surface area of Esmeralda
County and the economy of the county is dependent on business carried out on these
lands, and decisions regarding the management of these lands greatly impact the
social and economic well-being of the county.
WHEREAS, Well formulated plans are necessary tools that provide guidance to decision
makers and land managers at the Federal, State and Local government levels.
WHEREAS, Esmeralda County either lacks plans or has outdated plans for land use.
WHEREAS, Esmeralda County is invited to comment or contribute input to a variety
of proposed Federal actions, legislation, and planning processes and has often
failed to due to lack of staff or available time.
WHEREAS, Believing that the traditional American concept of "government of the
people, by the people, and for the people" is best served when government affairs
are conducted as close to the people as possible at the local level, and to foster
the principles of sound resource management, multiple use, and economic development
through free enterprise, balanced with prudent environmental policies
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Commissioners, Esmeralda County
hereby create the Esmeralda County Land Use Advisory Committee for the following
purposes:
- To provide a venue for the opinions of the citizens of Esmeralda County to be voiced on any land planning related issue.
- To help with the formulation of county land plans by providing a consensus of citizen opinion and ideas.
- To monitor and recommend response to the County Commissioners on proposed Federal and State actions, legislation, and planning processes involving land use.
- To review and provide ideas and citizen input to any proposed Local land use legislation and report their findings to the Board of Commissioners.
- To inform and educate the citizens, communities, and government of Esmeralda County on existing and proposed land use action, legislation, and planning processes.
